Zombie House Survival

Similar to Flatliner, in this my latest creation you can build your own monster truck levels, drawing ground and placing in objects to smash through.

Game Bug/Issue #26: Simplistic House

Postby gunground » Tue Aug 04, 2009 7:19 pm

Not a bug, but something you might want to change to add a bit of variety and challenge to the game.

Details:

Issue: The building that you defend is simplistic, and is somewhat bland.

Can Be Reproduced By: Starting a new game, you will notice how the house is rectangular-ish and simplistic.

Main Point/Problem: With such a simplistic building, it really makes defending it rather easy, and there is no true threat other than the barricades being destroyed. This restricts many elements of the game from reaching their full potential, which makes the game less interesting to play.

Solution: Return the building to its original shape (the L shape). Also (Optional), adding extra objects in the room (examples could be some shelves, a toilet, etc you get the idea). Would give it a more "house/base" feel. Rather, its extremely empty with the exception of a few crates. Whatever you think would fit the mood and settings to the building is fine.

Beta-Testers Rating of Urgency: First solution, a 5-6 out of 10. Second solution 2-3 out of 10.

Added Notes/Suggestions: Whatever you decide to do is up to you, simply a suggestion.

Can't show you a picture unfortunately because of the scan thats running which slows down pretty much everything.

Nothing compared to your posts Gunkiller but this is a slight problem I have found.

With the zombies that shoot you and are white, on wave 7 several of them froze and became unkillable. Because of this you were not able to proceed any further. I spent quite a while trying to kill them and trying to find any other enemies that could still be on the map but I found none.

This is quite a big problem considering it stops gameplay. Im not sure if this only relates to the shooting zombie and not to the scratching one as these two are the only ones I have encountered so far.

Any time you wanna fix this one Tom it would help alot.

Yeah, I've noticed this problem occurring with many people. It's been labeled the "Ghost Enemies Bug" where a report has been sent. Thanks though, your report has helped confirm that this bug is a rather large problem.

I noticed two problems with the menu.

The first problem is sound. The first time a player opens the options menu, the sound will automatically mute. The problem is solved by the player clicking the speaker icon to unmute. The sound returns as it should, and the problem does not recur when the player goes back into the options menu. If the player stays out of the options menu, the problem does not occur at all.

The second problem is that the player can clcik buttons in the previous menu. The buttons should be made unclickable when there is a menu on top of them.

There were no in-game problems that I encountered, but I died around wave 10 so...

Noticed By ViolentAJ (the new beta-tester). I've noticed this before however completely forgot about it until now. Thanks again Aj.

Details:

Bug: Buttons on the "Menu Screen" are click-able despite being in a different screen (such as options, or credit screens, etc)

Can Be Reproduced by: Any of the buttons besides play. But for best visibility click options, and click in the middle of one of the options. Whatever button "behind it" will be clicked.

Main Point/Problem: This could accidentally send someone into game play when that person is trying to change the settings.

Solution: Make the buttons "non-click able" until the player clicks "exit". So its a matter of adding a "toggle" button that is switched by the "exit" button.

Added Notes/Suggestions: Thanks to ViolentAJ, who reminded me of this bug.

Game Bug/Issue #28: Dis-Appearing Music

Postby gunground » Fri Aug 14, 2009 5:53 pm

Also detected by ViolentAJ, I waiting until the weekend to confirm his findings.

Details:

Bug: After clicking the "options" button, the music stops playing.

Can Be Reproduced by: Clicking the options button.

Main Point/Problem: None majorly, just a minor error.

Solution: Add a toggle for music, in which when either "music off" or clicking play ends the menu screen music.

Beta-Testers Rating of Urgency: 1 out of 10

Added Notes/Suggestions: Just a minor error, so the report is skimp on details.

Game Bug/Issue #29: Non-Loading Restart Button

Postby gunground » Fri Sep 04, 2009 5:03 pm

Despite the fact that this is a different variation of my previous bug "No Restart", I decided to submit this bug as separate, as it is somewhat important and also is mildly different.

Bug/Issue: After dying, no restart button is shown.

Bug can be reproduced by: Dying, and when the submit score screen appears, there is no restart button. Either it was a bug, or you deleted that feature. (Also, not sure if it matters, but I got the "Ghost enemy" bug before dying").

Main Point/Problem: When you get the chance, please fix the bug/problem. Its not major, but it would be helpful to see if bugs continue throughout the whole game or if they end when the game is restarted.

Solution: Re-Add the button, or if its already added don't do anything. Focus on the other bugs for the time being.

Beta-Testers Rating of Urgency: 3 out of 10

Added Notes/Suggestions: None

Thats fine Violent. You've already guaranteed your name on the credits for finding the weapon bugs. Your the only beta-tester who hasn't abandoned the project after the first few days. You and me are the only people who really attempt to sustain the beta-testing portion of the game :).
